YMCA and Marshfield Tennis Recognized by VA

February 21, 2019

Bob Carroll, Senior Tennis Professional, Marshfield Tennis Club and Emilson South Shore YMCA:
75 Mill Street
Hanover , Ma. 02339

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you, your organization for offering the veterans from the VA Boston Healthcare Systems the opportunity to participate in the adaptive wheelchair tennis lessons each month. This is the 3rd year of what I think we all agree is a successful and gratifying program between Marshfield Tennis Club and YMCA. We would like to acknowledge Bob Carroll, the Senior Tennis Professional who allows us the use of the YMCA indoor courts and equipment in the winter months at no charge.

The dedication, spirit, and enthusiasm that the tennis volunteers have shown to our vets have opened the doors and hearts of the participants that were involved. They have had nothing but positive things to say about the program and can’t wait for the next month’s session to get back out on the courts! Veterans involved were from a variety of treatment groups such as the Mental Health and Recovery, Physical Medicine Rehabilitation and Long Term Care services at the VA.

This is a wonderful, therapeutic program for veterans that are exploring recreation and sports as a healing, empowering resource and will give them the confidence to try other activities. The learning, social interaction and camaraderie obtained through the wheelchair tennis program will provide long lasting value and improved self-esteem.

We thank you from our hearts, minds and souls-

Sincerely,

Felicia Hall

Wounded Warriors @ Peter Igo Park October 2018

Marshfield Tennis Club hosted the Wounded Warriors from the Brockton VA Campus for lunch and some tennis at Peter Igo Park. Bud “Smokin’ Duke” Duksta and friends served up salad, lobster sliders and steak tips to these brave patriots. It was a pretty chilly day at the Park, but some still joined MTC volunteers on the courts.

MTC Is Proud Of Its Instructors

PTR.jpg

In its 15th year as a USTA Community Tennis Association serving the community, MTC is proud of its instructors teaching as part of the USTA’s Net Generation program.

Ms. Kerry Magoon, Ms. Anna Proctor, Ms. Maddie Wileles and Ms. Molly Friday are all Professional Tennis Registry certified instructors. They completed another very successful summer of teaching young kids basic tennis skills at the “University of Tennisology at Peter Igo Park. Most of the kids taking lessons were between 4 - 9 years of age - perfect formative ages to learn the “Life Sport of Tennis.”

We are very proud of our certified instructors and wish them all well in the off season: Kerry returns to UMASS Dartmouth, Anna to UMASS Amherst, Maddie onto her freshman year at Boston College and Molly back to Notre Dame Academy.

Job well done team!

Tennis Ball Recycliing

The Marshfield Tennis Club is proud to be at the forefront of the movement to recycle used tennis balls. MTC is one of the first 100 communities in the United States to provide this sustainability service. In the coming years, it will probably seem strange to come off a tennis court in the U.S. and not have one of these AD-IN bins to discard unwanted tennis balls.

An AD-IN tennis ball recycling bin has been installed at the Peter Igo tennis courts.

Most tennis balls end up in landfills, but the new hardcourts at CourtSense at Tenafly Racquet Club feature courts cushioned from thousands of recycled tennis balls.
