Marshfield Tennis Club

About

Our Mission: To promote tennis and fitness to people of all ages, both able and non-able bodied, throughout the Town of Marshfield and its surrounding communities.

The Marshfield Tennis Club is a registered 501-c(4) not-for-profit and USTA Community Tennis Association member. As an active CTA member, the club is comprised of volunteers that actively support and provide programs which promote and develop the growth of tennis. The club was founded in 2007 by a small group of tennis enthusiasts. Today, the club has over 100 active members consisting of residents throughout Marshfield and surrounding towns.

MTC was recognized by the USTA as New England’s CTA of the Year in 2012 and in 2015. The Club earned this award through its efforts to promote tennis and health awareness in the Massachusetts south shore area.

The Marshfield Tennis Club currently has 8 instructors certified by the Professional Tennis Registry and 2 of those instructors have also been certified as Adaptive Tennis Instructors and have worked with the Special Olympics.  Five of MTC’s instructors are certified to teach Wheelchair Tennis.  All MTC instructors are CPR certified and have successfully passed CORI background checks.

Marshfield Tennis Club also runs an instructor apprenticeship program whereby members of the high school tennis teams assist MTC’s certified instructors.  The apprentices are encouraged to obtain Professional Tennis Registry certification and upon so doing are reimbursed for certification costs.

Community Service

Working with State and Town officials and with the generous contributions of local businesses and volunteers, MTC lead the recent renovation of Peter Igo Park that was recognized as being the Public Park of the Year in the nation by Tennis Industry Magazine.

Central to obtaining funding for the renovation through the Town and from the USTA, was MTC’s written commitment to maintain the entire Park for a minimum of 5 years.  In 2015, MTC’s members honored this obligation by, among other things, keeping the Park clean, purchasing and laying sod, arranging the further clearing of the Southeast Quadrant, coordinating the installation of the new dock on Green Harbor River, and much more.
